Reflection on Controlling Process
Question: Discuss about the Reflection on Controlling Process. Answer: Introduction: The aim of the study is to present a reflexive course on operation management of an organization I have worked for. My experience at that organisation regarding operational process has been discussed here. The discussion includes monitoring and control process and statistical control process of the organization. Work culture and product development process have also been discussed. I have worked for a manufacturing company Airbus for three years starting from 2012. I was hired by the company as an executive in the operation department. The company manufactures aircraft parts and supplies products at different regions of the world especially in Asian and European countries. I was employed at the fully owned subsidiary of the company Airbus India Operation. I have learned lots of things regarding operation management working in the department, although I have experienced some difficulties faced by the organisation regarding new product development and organisational control process. Being an executive of the operation management department, I was responsible to monitor and control of production and delivery process. Monitoring and controlling in production is necessary as this can reduce wastage of resources. As I experienced, every project has a planning process where, the budget and time are set for each activity. Now, at project implementation stage, any deviation from budget allocation may push the project at risk. Therefore, at every stage of the process, the operation management requires to monitor performance of the employees, production process and achievement of target (Hill Hill, 2012). When I monitored the task, I used to record every fault, delay in tasks, problems in production process. After collecting information, I used to negotiate with operation manager of the organization about the issues and took possible corrective measures to mitigate risk of project. We did variance analysis to address the severity of the risk. Variance indicates divergence of actual performance from the planned performance (Subramanian Ramanathan, 2012). For effective operation the company uses work breakdown structure, which divides different types of work among different skilled labours (Goetsch Davis 2014). In my service period I experienced that the company suffered from operational issues due to economic problem in the country. During 2013-14, India encompassed through a hard state, when unemployment and inflation rate was high, which created operational and financial burden upon the company. As the company faced financial crisis during these two years, it had suffered in the event of product launching. The company had no sufficient funds to finance new investment. However, the company tries to overcome those operational issues by trying to enter into new market globally. During 2015, the output level increased slightly as the manufacturing sector grew by 0.5% during the period. Growth of Airline sector in India is rapid and hence, the demand for aircraft product is also growing. Therefore, the growth prospect of the company is bright in long term. Being an operational executive I monitored the statistical data recording process. During my working period I worked with SPC software. The company uses Statistical Process Control tool in controlling quality at the manufacturing process. I learnt the tool at my training period in that organisation. The tool is very helpful in reducing variance of task. It improves productivity and helps the organization in cost reduction (Ab Rahmanet al., 2015). In manufacturing process, this tool can measure data on temperature, weight, production time at a time with finding defect in production process instantly (Suhairi Gaol, 2013). Therefore, use of this tool made the operation management task easier. This is an effective tool as the stakeholders get extensive information at a glance about the performance of the company. After analysis of data, the software identifies most critical area of the production, which needs an improvement. Accordingly, the engineer and management can take possible acti on (Farber et al., 2012). To increase operational efficiency, the company formed a training system to provide support to the air traffic operator. During 2013-14, the company experienced a decrease in performance. The tool was effectively used to analyse variability in system and making quick decision. However, use of SPC tool requires knowledge of data analysis. I have found in my working period that, information management and monitoring process are effectively used by company. However, there were problem regarding human resource management. The Indian company needs to be more strategic in this issue to increase productivity of the company. The company was mostly affected by external factors such as economic fluctuations, fall in domestic demand etc. To overcome the issues, the company took policy to invest in long term projects. Learning controlling process along with my previous experience of working with different statistical tools will promote an understanding and appreciation of the importance of process control in me. It will equip me with knowledge about appropriate tools that can be used to control processes and an understanding to interpret the statistical data in troubleshooting process problems. Moreover, it will provide me with the knowledge to identify the origin of quality problems. Thus, my ability to think and take decisions from managerial perspective will improve, which will further help me to take up managerial positions in future.
